May 10:

Tranquil green and blue hues.

Wilderness Lily's Nature Count: 2 mosquito bites, 1 black bear, 1 doe, many cows.

May 11:

The sign reads: windshield bug wash.

Our first day at the Band Office we met the Band manager, staff, Chief, and Council, who are apparently all related (rural joke).

May 12:

Earrings handmade by a talented community member.

Emily and I had two meetings today. The first was with the Band manager and department heads. The second was with my project coordinators and the vice principal of the local K-12 school.

May 13:

Fishing near our residence.

Throughout the week Emily and I have assisted with wildfire orientation at the Band Office. The Beaver First Nation community has been very supportive of those affected by the Alberta wildfires, sending supplies as well as people to help. After work a local took us fishing but sadly we came back empty handed. We also learned beavers are not to be taken lightly, we were told a beaver tried to drag a man into the river after petting it's baby!

May 14:

Mothers Day preparations.

Tori, Emily, and I helped cook and cleanup afterwards, it was a great way to meet a lot of the community including many Elders. There was more than enough food for everyone to have thirds and then some.

May 15:

Sleepover souvenirs.

Last night some kids camped in the firehall, at one point there was up to eight of them playing on the firetruck. Afterwards Tori, Emily, and I visited Papa Henry, a councilman and previous Chief. Papa Henry built many of the buildings in the community including our loft above the Firehall.
